I’ve been flirting with vegan for months
making meal time impossible.
Too much effort to count.
Michael & I have fought.
But we’ve compromised.
And made it through.
II.
I have a lot of food allergies,
making vegan harder.
Birthday cakes with
no milk or eggs or dairy or animal or coconut oil or high-dose nutmeg
are hard to come by.
Even harder to find good.
III.
Michael is in the kitchen,
grating carrots and warming vegan cream cheese.
He’s making me a carrot cake.
The day after my birthday.
Because yesterday he didn’t have time.
IV.
I’m a very, very, very, very, very, very lucky woman sometimes.
Well, most times.
I just admit to it when
the evidence is overwhelming.
