The Indianapolis Zoo now serves veggie burgers. Kudos to them - that’s actually a great step. However, one of the women making a comment about that made me laugh. It was something along the lines of ‘oh, I’m sure the zoo uses organic meat so I’m safe.’ No, you twit…but thanks for the laugh.
Maybe it’s crude but people (I have many friends who do it too) who are all like “I want to be kind to the environment, animals and my body - that’s why I only eat organic meats, chickens, eggs, etc.” It makes me giggle because it’s a cop out. Want to be ‘kind’ to the environment? Stop eating meat. Want to be kind to animals? Stop eating them. Want to be kind to your body? Stop eating meat. Organic animals products are really just a comforting lie. You can Google and find reputable sources all you like but ‘organic’ animals are still treated like shit on tiny little patches of grass and all the other bad things. They just are treated a little less bad. The methane from the organic cow your eating is still fudging up the environment. And your body? Hrm, I guess nutritionists are wrong when the recommend vegan diets as an assistance for those treating cancer, diabetes, heart conditions and more.
I’m not trying to be preachy. Really, I couldn’t care less what any reader eats or doesn’t. Good for you. It just makes me giggle (and I really mean giggle) that people fall into the lies of labels. Same way ‘fat free’ foods are generally not good for you and the like.
Thanks people for the giggle!
